Disney executives announced the show was cancelled and would not receive a fifth season in light of Mickey and the Roadster Racers. The last episode aired on November 6, The series focuses on a band of young pirates consisting of Jake , Izzy , Cubby , their parrot Skully , and Bucky , their living pirate ship, who continuously spend their days competing against Captain Hook and Mr. Smee for treasure. They are often accompanied by several characters, including their mermaid friend Marina. A second season was also ordered for the series and began airing on February 20, The series are a critical and commercial success, receiving high praise from critics and fans for its educational, yet entertaining format.
The series are currently in its third season, premiering on January 3 , with an updated theme and opening. Also, a line of items, such as party supplies, apparel, room decor, plush, role play and accessories, and action-oriented play sets and figures, including a boat of Bucky, Jake's Pirate Ship, were released in the summer of , while in , three Lego Duplo sets have been released based on the series.
The show revolves around a group of three children who are pirates in Never Land, looking for treasure. Their main obstacles are Captain Hook , Mr. Captain Hook usually sees Jake and his crew doing something fun and steals it from them, and Jake and his crew have to get it back. After they succeed, Jake and his crew count their gold doubloons which they receive after solving puzzles, or "pirate problems" and put them in their treasure chest known as the "Team Treasure Chest.
The first season of the series followed more "playful" conflicts such as Jake and the crew getting their basketball back from Captain Hook, or Jake and the crew taking back their stolen skateboard.
The second season gave a larger scale to the adventure in the show, now having the characters find a lost city of gold and an ancient pirate pyramid. The 4th season has the kids interact just once an episode.
Each program contains two eleven minute animated episodes, followed by a live-action song by the Never Land Pirate Band.
The singing characters "Bones" and "Sharky" appear in both animated and live action forms. In the episode " Witch Hook ",after Captain Hook uncover the Sea Witch 's magic mirror and transform himself into a witch.
Hook ask the mirror who the bravest pirate in Never Land,the mirror informs Hook its Jake. Using his new found power Hook turns Jake into a coward,Izzy and the rest of the crew take Jake to Misty the Wonderful Witch 's cottage for her assistance. However Misty knew if anything could restore Jake's courage would be the magical waters of Washaway Falls. After restoring Jake's courage and defeating Captain Hook,Jake and his crew retrieve the magic mirror and decide to take it back to Misty to keep it safe from Hook.
When the evil Mer-wizard named Lord Fathom is released from an underwater prison, he sets out to take over the Never Sea. Sandy the Starfish tells Jake and his friends what happened while Fathom places all the sea creatures in the Never Sea under his control. Captain Hook however confronts Fathom in his hunt for treasure,Fathom soon grew tired of Hook and attacked the Jolly Roger.
Jake and his crew soon arrive to help Hook and his crew spotting them being attacked by Fathom. But Fathom proved to powerful sending pirates flying, he reveals he intends to unleash the Strake , the most ferocious monster in the Never Sea.
The League tries to stop Lord Fathom but he's too powerful. Jake's sword suddenly makes the Mighty Colossus rise out of the water and makes him it's captain.
Meanwhile, Lord Fathom releases the Strake and places it under his control and a battle erupts. King Neptune appears and tells Jake that all he needs to defeat Fathom and the Strake is to believe in himself.
Using the powers of his sword, Jake finally defeats Fathom and the Strake. The Never Sea now free from Fathom chase the wicked mer-wizard away. Skully often mentions Jake and the crew within the spin-off needing the help of the viewer to complete a task for them, Jake also makes a minor appearance within the spin-off.
Jake is the main focus in the spin-off entrusting the viewer with various lesson in each short in what it takes to be a Never Land pirate. Jake and his crew reappear in the latest spin-off searching for the Pirate Pieces of Eight hidden all over Never Land, said to uncover a hidden treasure.
Jake and his crew first adventure was in the episode the "The Golden Pyramid" while riding aboard there sail wagons across the Never Land Desert Hook and Mr. Smee overhear Jake and his crew for the pyramid. As Jake and his crew traverse to the volcano Captain Hook and Mr. Smee manage to swoop in and take the Pirate Piece from Jake and his crew. However, as Hook and Smee make their escape the Pirate Pieces burns Hook's hand forcing the greedy pirate to drop the Pirate Piece allowing Jake to safely catch it using his Forever Sword.
As Hook curses, Jake and his crew leave with another Pirate Piece. Some lava shoots out of Belch Mountain, destroying the propeller of Captain Hook's Whirly-Hook sending both Hook and Smee plummeting onto the back of Tick-Tock the Crocodile who quickly chases the villainous duo away.
Captain Hook and Mr. Smee are on their trail for the pirate piece as well. Bucky proved too fast for Hook, but the captain refused to be bested yet again by the puny pirates. Armed with his cannon hook Boat Buster hook , he blasts a hole into Bucky causing him to sink. While Jake and his crew repair Bucky, they needed one more piece to patch him up, when they spot the Pirate Piece of King Neptune they were searching for and manage to fish it out of the Never Sea before Captain Hook could and use it to fix Bucky.
Captain Hook tries one last attempt to reclaim the Pirate Piece armed once more with his Boat Buster hook, but thanks to the Pirate Piece of King Neptune, the blast is deflected right back to Hook, causing a massive tidal wave and forcing Hook and Smee to flee. But neither snow nor sleet will stop Jake and his crew from finding the Pirate Piece of Buccaneer Blue before Captain Hook can find it. The winner will find a special treasure at the finish line the Pirate Piece of the golden trophy.
Hook quickly flees into the jungle with Jake and his mateys in hot pursuit, unknown to Jake and the other it was a trap so Hook can imprison them and take all of the young pirates pieces and claim the Buccaneer Blast of treasure for himself on top of Buccaneer Mountain. Jake and the crew call Peter for help, and the flying boy is able to free Jake and his crew from the cage.
Peter accompanies Jake and his crew when they confront Captain Hook. Hook grew tired of Pan's meddling and constructs a giant Dublo version of himself using the combined powers of all the magical Pirate Pieces of Eight he stole to destroy Pan, Jake and his crew once and for all,but this is short lived as both Peter and Jake manage to defeat the giant Dublo Hook and reclaim all the Pirate Pieces of Eight with Izzy's pixie dust.
Jake makes numerous appearances in various books and comics. Some stories are mere adaptations of the series various episodes. Jake continuously makes several appearances in several video games and apps. In the online game "Puttin' Pirates". Jake is one of the playable characters the player can play as in the pirate mini golf game.
