Dual boot windows fedora

Boot Options A. Common Operations A. Setting up a chroot from a live image B. Revision History Index. Fedora 21 can be used as the only operating system on your computer, or you can dual boot Fedora with another operating system. Fedora can enable selection of other options at boot, often with little to no user configuration. Systems that can boot more than two operating systems are referred to as multiboot systems.

Installing Fedora on a system where another operating system is installed requires unallocated drive space. When your system starts, it first performs self tests, then loads a bootloader, GRUB. GRUB provides a menu so you can select the Fedora kernel or other operating system you would like to boot, and GRUBs configuration file stores options and settings required for initial booting of the selected operating system.

Changing Fedora's boot options can be helpful, especially when troubleshooting. These installation instructions are incomplete. Maybe you should update them or take them offline, please. What makes you feel that these instructions are incomplete? Success rates for repairs from there are slim. No, none of the repair tools of microsoft nor fedora will work from there.

Also why do you not have any dedicated swap space? Do you have applications that should not be using the hard disk in case the memory is full? Have a question or suggestion? Congratulations, Fedora 30 has been installed successfully in a dual boot mode with Windows operating system. Hahaha: sounds so simple for an install! If only! When dealing with Linux, anything can happen and, yes, Fedora does not install properly using the prescribed method above. What you say?! Well, every 2 years I go around and, again, try the different distros of Linux to see if any are PnP on a level comparable to Windows.

Well you say! Yep…there are the same old problems like ACPI issues, grub menu issues, etc, etc, etc. And what really gets me is that these distros, Fedora included, have absolutely no working support for Radeon graphics. Indeed, on installing Fedora, I had to spend 2 days figuring out how to get anything to show on my monitor. Note: you may think Linux is free because you pay no money, but let me tell you, the time spent trying to make your distro function dependably will cost you a lot more than the price of a new Windows OS.

And that is my opinion based on sound practical experience. Thank you for your time…. You are absolutely correct. I spend almost 2 days to fox my ACPI and grub menus issues. After installing Fedora 31 Workstation, my Windows 10 was not listed in the boot options. All got deleted and I am not sure how it happened and there was no setting related to this during Fedora 31 installation.

I followed those instructions and now I can neither boot into Fedora nor Windows. Any thoughts on what could have gone wrong?

The method described above is for an installation onto the same hard disk as the Windows installation. Are you on the exact same setup or are you installing to a second disk?

Installing Fedora on another drive might require extra config during installation to overwrite the Windows boot loader — and thus MBR — with the Grub one. Went route NOT using Fedora media install cause it failed due to a missing windows dll file.

After 24 hrs of trying to get that dll and put it in right place.. Gave up. I even found my bug report about the problem:. It should only be done from runlevel 3. And you should run rpmconf -a right after updating the packages to reconcile configuration file changes. And you must reboot promptly after completing the upgrade to have a stable system. Vimdiff provides a nice interactive means of merging configuration files. The current and new config files will be displayed side-by-side with differing lines highlighted.

Use ]c to jump forward to the next change or [c to jump to the previous change. Use zo to open a fold or zc to close a fold ]z and [z jumps between folds in the same way that ]c and [c jumps between changes. Fedora 35 install replace elementary os with fedora. Not installing system token, since we are running in a virtualized environment. Thanks glb. After fedora's os update, windows grub entry missing. Not able to boot in windows :.
